Biografie

n. 21 Octombrie 1947, Bucureşti; Profesor Emerit la Universitatea Babeș- Bolyai (UBB), Cluj-Napoca, Facultatea de Chimie și Inginerie Chimică. Absolvent al Institutului Politehnic din Bucureşti (1970), specialitatea automatică. Inginer proiectant la IPROSIN Bucuresti (1970-1972); analist de sistem la Centrul de Calcul al Industriei Chimice-MICh (1972-1973); cercetător la Institutul de Energetică Chimică și Biochimică filiala Cluj-Napoca (1973-1982); doctor inginer în inginerie chimică la Institutul de Petrol şi Gaze din Ploieşti (1985); lector universitar, conferențiar, profesor (1982-2015) la UBB. Şef de Catedră de Inginerie Chimică (1996-2007), Cancelar General (1996-2000), Prorector (2001- 2007), Preşedinte al Consiliului Academic (2007-2012) la UBB; Full Professor of Chemical Engineering la Botswana International University of Science and Technology (2015-2023). Expert UNESCO pentru învăţământ superior în programul Oil for Food în Irak (2000-2003). Visiting Associate la California Institute of Technology (1991-1992), Visiting Professor la Eötvös Lorand University, Pannon University (Budapest, Veszprem, Ungaria), Universidad Mayor San Marcos şi Universidad de Ingenieria (Lima), Universidad San Antonio Abad, Cuzco (Peru), Kazakh British Technical University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). A publicat peste 300 de lucrări ştiinţifice şi 15 cărţi în ţară şi străinătate în domeniul atât al automatizării, modelării matematice, optimizării proceselor, cât şi al managementului învăţământului superior. Membru al societăţilor AIChE, DECHEMA, IFAC, SIChR, SRAIT.

Ordinul Naţional ”Pentru Merit” în rang de Comandor și Mare Ofițer (2000 și 2008), premiul ”Nicolae Teclu” al Academiei Române, Secția Chimie (1976), premiul ”Tudor Tănăsescu” al Academiei Române, Secția Știința și Tehnologia Informației (1998);  Premiul şi medalia ”Emilian Bratu” ale Societăţii de Chimie din România.

Realizări tehnice

1.   Studiu de fezabilitate de introducere a calculatorului de proces la TEROM Iași (primul în industria chimică din România); 1972

2.  Proiecte de automatizare la instalatiile: epsilon-caprolactama Savinesti (cu punere în funcțiune); monomeri acrilici Râșnov (cu punere în funcțiune); distilare uleiuri volatile Orăștie (cu punere în funcțiune); instalatie de fabricare a hidrazinei Victoria (1971-1980). Realizator IECB, filiala Cluj-Napoca.

3.  Modelul matematic al celulei de electroliză cu catod de mercur a NaCl și introducerea calculatorului de proces ECAROM 83, la CC Râmnicu Vâlcea (1983). Realizator Univeristatea Babeș-Bolyai, Catedra de Chimie Fizică. Economii realizate: 2,5% din consumul de energie electrică.

4.  Simulator pentru procesul de Cracare Catalitică. Realizator: California Insitute of Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering; Beneficiar Chevron Oil Company 1992/1993, având ca rezultat dezvoltarea unui simulator de proces utilizat de Chevron Research & Development. Eficiență: s-au economisit estimativ 40 milioane USD

5.  Instalație de piroliză a deșeurilor organice, deșeuri de plastic pentru producerea de combustibili. Realizator: Botswana International University of Science and Technology, Botswana, 2016-2023
